Media Representation of Celebrities in Late-night Talk Show Format

This diploma thesis deals with the media representation of celebrities, as it is designed within the framework of the adopted American television format of the late-night talk show. In the first part of the thesis, attention is focused on problems of understanding of the phenomenon of celebrities by various authors, as well as on the development of the late-night talk show itself and its characteristic features. The theoretical starting point is the theory of representation (Hall), three levels of representation (Trampota) and social construction of reality (Berger, Luckmann). The method of critical discourse analysis is chosen for the research and the four principles for the analysis are described: commoditization, infotainment, personalization, congeniality. The practical part presents an analysis of the typical representation of celebrities due to the principles mentioned above in selected talk shows which were broadcast in English and Czech languages in 2015-2016, namely American The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Czech Jan Kraus Show. Tabloidization in Czech Daily Press - Changes between 1995 - 2010

Diploma thesis "Tabloidization of the Czech Daily Press - Changes between 1995 - 2010" deals with continuous process of changes in Czech daily press. The study focuses on national Czech dailies both quality press and tabloid during the period of 1995 to 2010. It tries to explain different aspects that have brought the changes. The goal of this study is to show the tabloidization characteristics with the defined indicators in the quantitative analysis. Based on analysed data it can be concluded that not all dailies chosen show all features of tabloidization. The results of this investigation also indicated that the Czech dailies mostly tend to increase the number of local news and decrease the number of political news.
Analysis of the mixed public-private system of the TV broadcasting in France from the aspect of news

Diploma thesis "Analysis of the mixed public-private system of the TV broadcasting in France from the aspect of news" deals with the TV broadcasting in France, its development and its present. In the experimental part of this work the author tried to describe the principal TV news broadcast of the two most powerful French TV stations and to compare it to the two corresponding TV stations in the Czech Republic. The goal of this comparison was to find out whether the public and private TV stations news have some features in common, concerning for example its content, types of the reports and other universally established methods, how to attract the TV viewers and to increase the ratings. The author tried to find these principles via the research, to describe them by the comparison of the main evening news broadcast in the chosen nationwide private TV station in France and its corresponding counterparts in the Czech Republic and the subsequent comparison with the parallel pair of public stations. The author of this thesis also deals with the premise, that the private TV stations tend to the "infotainment" - the "funny" way of presenting the news in order to attract the viewers to the screens, often at the expense of its information value. Changes of daily Sport through 1999-2006

The graduation theses "Changes of daily Sport through 1999-2006" treats of changes, which this only published sport newspapers in the Czech republic, had to go through after it became the part of the Ringier publishing company in 2002 (till 2002 the publisher of the magazine Sport was the Czechoslovakian sport company). Ringier publishing, which also publishes the tabloid newspapers Blesk, has completely changed the concept of the Sport, graphics and even the personal constitution of the editor's office. Zbyšek Pechr, the exvice general editor of the tabloid newspapers, has become the general editor. Since 2002 you can see elements of infotainment, which means transparency between the informational and entertainment functions. This graduation thesis also covers the position of the Sport compare to other competitors on the czech media market, the internet version of the Sport, the Sunday Sport papers and the Friday Magazine.
Selected Late Night Shows as a Source of Information and their Convergence with Journalistic practice

This master's thesis focuses on the relationship between late night shows, a specific type of talk show popular mainly in the United States of America, and journalism. It primarily aims to reveal the details behind the convergence of these shows and journalism, find out how this convergence manifests and how significant it is. The thesis describes the history and the present of these shows, including their function as an important information source for the American public. The thesis then clarifies the influence of satire and infotainment in the American media landscape and defines some of the most important journalistic methods and genres. It deals with the concepts of investigative, explainer and constructive journalism. The thesis then examines, using both qualitative and quantitative analysis, three late night shows: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In these three case studies, methods and genres used by these shows are examined, and it is shown how they deliver information to the viewer and what kind of information it is. Transformation of the thematic structure of the main news prograqmme of czech television

This thesis deals with the transformation of the thematic structure of Události, the main news segment of the Czech Television. Apart from the changes in the thematic structure, it deals with formal transformations at the basic level. For the purpose of this work, a research sample, which included one week of broadcasting in 1994, 2005 and 2011, was selected. A total of 27 news segments, which contained 341 reportages, were analyzed in the three research periods. A subsequent comparison of data provided answers to the following questions: How did the ratio of foreign and domestic topics changed? How did the ratio of hard and soft news change within a single news segment? What was the thematic structure like in the three research periods? Was there a change in the thematic structure? How did the duration of the news segment Události change? How did the number of reportages change within a single news segment? How did the duration of actual reportages change? Reflection and popularization of archaeology in the mass media

The paper analyzes the archaeological topics published from the 1st January 2014 until the last day of the 2014 in selected Czech media, specifically in the newspapers called Právo, Hospodářské noviny, Mladá fronta Dnes. Examined is also tabloid Blesk. Included are also their online portals - www.novinky.cz, www.lidovky.cz, www.iHNed.cz, www.idnes.cz, www.denik.cz and www.blesk.cz. Based on the analysis reproduced articles exported from the media database and based on the online questionnaires that were used to question journalists and archaeologists redefined the basic rules of communication between them, including communication difficulties which may arise during common cooperation. The thesis also contains a database of the editors and active journalists who deal with such problems, including their work contacts, to facilitate the work of archaeologists attempt at media coverage of their own research, and many other archaeological projects. Reporting across the hemispheres: conceptual comparison of the most viewed newscasts in the Czech republic and New Zealand

Master thesis "Reporting across the Hemispheres: Conceptual Comparison of the Most Viewed Newscasts in the Czech Republic and New Zealand" describes contemporary valid and frequently used concepts of television news shows of the most viewed newscasts in the Czech Republic and New Zealand, which are Televizní noviny airing on TV Nova and One News airing on TV One. It compares both technical and especially the content-related aspects of newscasts during a one-month-long period (January 2014) in order to find general scheme for the choice of the topics, their processing, arrangement and their final presentation in each show. The thesis then puts ascertained findings into the broader national, historical and cultural context of the media sphere in both countries and furthermore, it compares both media systems and their newscast contents and explains why some factors used in them are the same and other differs.
